Paper 4, due Dec 9 by 5pm

Please answer one of the following two questions.

1. Explain 2 of Alexander’s and Davis’ arguments against the penal system (you must use one argument from each thinker).  Criticize and defend each argument.  State your own position on whether Alexander and Davis are right or wrong, give reasons to justify your position, and defend your thinking from a relevant criticism.  In other words, make and defend your own argument.
2. Explain 2 of Alcoff’s arguments that problematize Latina identity (you must use one argument from each essay we read).   Criticize and defend each argument.  State your own position on whether Alcoff is right or wrong, give reasons to justify your position, and defend your thinking from a relevant criticism.  In other words, make and defend your own argument.

 

Format

One inch margins, 12 point font, double spaced, times new Roman font. 1200 words long, which means no shorter than 1200 words and no longer than 1300. Spellcheck your paper, please. Edit your paper. Number your pages. Do not include extraneous information, such as “Davis was an important communist in the 20^th century,” or “For many years philosophers have struggled with race.”

You do not need a title for this paper, but if you make one that is fine. Do not use or even look at outside sources: this is not a research paper. Any use of outside sources is plagiarism and results in a failing grade for this course. DO NOT PLAGIARIZE. If you use quotes from our course texts, cite by page numbers in parentheses at the end of the line: “Archimedes sought but one firm and immovable point” (17). Do not include a bibliography.

Late papers will be docked a third of a letter grade for each day late (including weekends). Papers later than one week will not be accepted.
